It was great fun. This is what I love about Mexico ... there's no thought about public liability. Not a single fireperson or safety measure was in place whatsoever. If it was Australia, there would be barriers and fire-retardants at the ready. Or more likely, it wouldn't even be allowed to happen.

great balls of fire
Capitalising on the defensive vantage point, ceremonial pyramids were built on the mountains behind the lake and they now lie in ruins above the town. On the night of the day of the dead, the townsfolk put on a game by the ruins, played with some flaming ball and hockey sticks. Not quite sure how traditional it all was, but it was very exciting to see people shriek when the ball of fire flew into the crowd, singeing eyebrows and sending drinks flying.
